MODEL UNITED NATIONS REPORT (2023-24)
MDH International School, Janakpuri organised its First Edition of the Model United Nations Conference (MUN) 2023 on the 25th of November, 2023.
The opening ceremony started with the ‘Lighting of the Lamp’ followed by the school choir and the welcome address to the Chief Guest, our Principal, Mrs. Nandini Bidalia.
Grade VIII students took part in an engaging MUN session role playing as delegates of different countries, debating issues of international importance as representatives of various nations. They proposed solutions and negotiated with their fellow delegates on pertinent issues that are plaguing the world. This MUN programme trained the students in the art of introduction, opinion development, and collaborative problem solving through these four committees – DISEC, UNEP, WHO and UNOOSA.
The delegates representing member countries debated on global issues relating but not limited to non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, impact of climate change on Ecosystem, and Outer space trash impact. The programme was a great success. A special thanks to our Principal, Mrs. Nandini Bidalia, Headmistress, Mrs. Simran Kaur, and Academic Coordinator, Sadhna Relan who felicitated the winners and expressed their congratulatory opinions on the immense success of the conference.
The Principal said that such events are a gateway to global exposure and that they provide a platform to children to experience and understand political discourses that take place at International forums. The Headmistress concluded that MUN was all about developing skills (technical qualities) and soft skills (interaction with others) and effectively merging the two of them. The First Edition of Model United Nations was an unforgettable experience. It focused on global issues helping us all make this world a better place to live in!
